A Secondary Swirl – Virtual Reality work in progress, 2018
A Secondary Swirl is a reworking of my collaborative performance titled “A Secondary Swirl on Your Hardware” that was performed at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica in 2016.
Utilizing video and text from the original performed version, the project is currently being created as an experimental virtual reality project. Using 360 video and flat video edited in After Effects using the Mettle Skybox plugins and 3D objects created in Maya, memories are recalled through handwritten scrolls that appear and animate across fantastic landscapes.
Additionally, parts of the project are being developed in Unity where the viewer will move through the landscapes described in the handwritten texts as immersive spaces.
“I am trying to remember something that never happened to me”
“Google earth showed two white dots in the French landscape”
“The cicadas returned that summer. All of nature vibrated”
Wallpaper - Virtual Reality work in progress, 2018
Inspired by the text, “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Wallpaper is a series of 360 videos shot at the Rockhaven Sanitarium in Glendale, California. Three dancers, Kelsey Long, Tiara Jackson and Samantha Mohr embody the unique spaces at Rockhaven and loosely take on characteristics perhaps associated with the “nervous disorders” that plagued the women who stayed in these spaces from the 1920’s through the 1960's.
As an immersive experience, the viewer is transported into these colorful, patterned-filled rooms while seemingly possessed, sometimes ghostly figures, move around them.
